Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Easy Cranberry Crumble Bars
  1. In a medium skillet, combine fresh cranberries, water, and sugar over medium heat. Simmer gently for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency. Once ready, remove from heat and allow the cranberry jam to cool completely while you move on to preparing the crust.
  2. Set your oven to preheat at 350°F (175°C).
  3. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cardamom, and cinnamon. In another bowl, cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined, forming a soft dough.
  5. Press about 2/3 of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan. Spread the cooled cranberry jam over the crust and crumble the remaining dough on top.
  6. Place the assembled bars in the preheated oven and bake for 20-30 minutes, until golden brown and the jam bubbles slightly around the edges.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Optional: Once cool, dust the top with powdered sugar.
